1984 – Joel and Ethan Coen premiered their first film “Blood Simple” at the Sundance Film Festival on this day. The film won the Grand Jury Prize, effectively launching the career of the four-time Oscar winning Coen Brothers, as well as Joel’s wife, Frances McDormand, who starred in the film, and future blockbuster director Barry Sonnenfeld (“Men in Black”), the cinematographer.
