GEORGE PEPPARD After a stint in the Marine Corps, George Peppard studied at The Actors' Studio in the 1950s. His breakout film role was in 1961's "Breakfast at Tiffany's" with Audrey Hepburn, but his film career was derailed by his alcoholism. He was originally cast in the pilot for TV's "Dynasty" in 1981, but heated disagreements with the producers lead to him being fired and replaced by Jon Forsythe. But the next year he won the role of Col. John "Hannibal" Smith in "The A-Team." Peppard continued to work after the show was cancelled and even after he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1992. He filmed an episode of "Matlock" in 1994 that was supposed to spin off a new show, but he died of pneumonia on May 8 of that year.
