The saga of Bella Swan has come to a close, making way for a new dreamy-eyed heroine to step into a forbidden cross-species romance conjured by Stephenie Meyer. For the record, "The Host," with its tale of Earth being invaded by alien beings called "Souls," is a wittier, more confident and, yes, more subversive novel than any of the "Twilight" books and has the makings of a pretty good sci-fi flick for the YA crowd -- one that could by default transform the young lady who broke our hearts in "The Lovely Bones" into an international superstar.
