After the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, allowing gay marriage to resume in the state of California, Veronica Mars actress and longtime sloth enthusiast Kristen Bell announced she was finally ready to marry fiance Dax Shepard. The couple, who first got engaged in 2009 after two years of dating, had previously vowed to wait until their gay friends could marry. The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal over same-sex marriage on jurisdictional grounds, ruling private parties do not have "standing" to defend California's voter-approved ballot measure barring gay and lesbian couples from state-sanctioned wedlock. The United States Supreme Court delivered a pretty crushing blow to inequality. The high court determined that the federal Defense of Marriage Act, signed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, is unconstitutional. In addition, the Supreme Court decided it could not take up a challenge to Proposition 8, the 2008 ballot measure in California that outlawed same-sex marriage, meaning that gay marriage is now legal in the Golden State.
