Are you crazy? "Mama Mia" does not take itself seriously for one moment, it is silly, light-hearted and fun and Meryl was a blast to watch in it. No cringing except when I think of whoever wrote this comment getting paid to do so.

That film was decently reviewed by critics. But considering an actress as good as Meryl Streep, it's hard to find average roles she's played.

try seeing "Death Becomes Her" . Her only real slip in my opinion.

Wrong!! The film was blasted by just about all the critics...many complained that Streep was much too old for the role ( She was 60 playing a 40 ish) And many times STreep relies on what is called 'Outer acting" eg. mannerism, clothes, accents rather than inhabit a character. One is too aware its Streep rather than forgetting the actress and getting into the role the actress should be portraying! She can be excellent but NOT always.

If you can't enjoy this movie or the music of Abba in general then you take yourself way too seriously.

Seriously if you're a lover of Great music You will not like this movie, the singers from ABBA could really sing I mean really sing even before they came together for the group ABBA beautiful voices each one of them especially the ladies...

Of course the original versions of the songs are better. I didn't say that all of the actors in the movie sang well, but I did still enjoy watching them sing. It's fun to watch people sing a song that they love, even if they do it badly. The actors on the show 'Glee' are all technically good singers, but I don't enjoy watching them sing at all because it's generic with no feeling.

With movies like "Death Becomes Her" and "She-Devil" in her resume, you pick "Mama Mia!" as an embarrassment? You are the one who should be embarrassed, Ms. Thorpe.

        I agree completely

        I LOVED Death Becomes Her!

Death Becomes Her is a riot and she had the funniest line in She-Devil "Will somebody get the G D phone" I still crack up every time I hear that line. Best line in Death Becomes Her: Isabella Rossalini: "Now a warning" Streep:" NOW a Warning?!!!" Hilarious!

Carla you need some education in music and acting cause Meryle nailed both in Mama Mia, as she always does in all her movies.

The only thing embarassing is the IQ of whoever wrote this article.

Mama Mia was freaking Awesome!!! I loved it and my 12 year old loved it. Anything that can pass on some ABBA love to the next generation is not a bad thing. Maybe the author of this article should try again.

      Meryl Streep makes anything wonderful!

The only embarrasment here is the either metally challenged or vicious writer of the article. Mama Mia is my favorite movie and Meryl Streep nails the part precisely. In my opinion she deserved an oscar for that one. It may be a silly movie, but I LOVED it. I cry EVERY time I watch it. It captures the dreams of youth and the abandonment of another time. I totally with ALL the commenters and especially Milesy who said she wanted to move to Greece after watching - ME TOO!! Get another writer that actually has a brain AND heart!

PLEASE someone fire the lady who wrote this article. She clearly does not know top from bottom or hits from bombs. Meryl Streep was an absolute success in Mamma Mia! It's my favorite musical of all time, and I generally HATE musicals. The writer of this article is just jealous or extremely ignorant. Either way, she is not qualified to judge.
    • NK  •  3 months ago
She looks adorable, and unless the movie was a bomb, there is nothing to be embarrassed about.
