Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta took the first steps toward defusing a difficult situation swirling around the fate of Italy?s cinema tax credit, telling parliament the government is ?committed? to locating the resources necessary to keep the credit funded beyond the end of next year. Haifaa Al-Mansour, the first female film director of international note to emerge from Saudi Arabia, will head the jury that will award the Luigi De Laurentiis prize, given to the best debut film at the Venice Film Festival. The Luigi Delaurentiis prize, which includes a $100,000 cash award, is given each year to the best debut film screening in one of Venice's competitive sections. Standard & Poor's Ratings Services is downgrading Italy's credit, saying the country's economic prospects are getting weaker.
