Although she made her feature film debut as Mary Shelley in the creepy drama Gothic, Richardson's first screen appearance came at age 4 when she appeared as a flower girl in The Charge of the Light Brigade, directed by her father Tony Richardson.

In her breakout screen role, Richardson played the title role of heiress Patty Hearst. Part of a famous family herself, Richardson became so immersed in the role that she donned a blindfold between scenes to better identify with her real-life counterpart.

In The Comfort of Strangers, Richardson held her own opposite Academy Award winners Christopher Walken and Helen Mirren.

For her work in The Handmaid's Tale and The Comfort of Strangers, Richardson earned The London Evening Standard Award for Best Actress of 1990.

In the independent romantic comedy Waking Up in Reno, Richardson starred alongside Billy Bob Thornton, Charlize Theron and Patrick Swayze as two trashy couples traveling to Reno to see a monster truck show.

In her highest grossing film, the Jennifer Lopez vehicle Maid In Manhattan, Richardson memorably starred opposite Ralph Fiennes as an obnoxious blue-blooded New York socialite.

In the final Merchant-Ivory production The White Countess, Richardson starred in her second collaboration with Ralph Fiennes. They would remain close friends, with Ralph a regular guest at Natasha's dinner table. Food was the actress' other passion; she even guest starred on TV's "Top Chef."

In Asylum, Richardson served as executive producer, as well as lead actress, playing a bored 1950s housewife who falls in love with an asylum patient.

  • Very sad to hear, tragic at best, funny I was a downhill racer, motocross racer and cross country snowmobile racer and never got hurt, maybe because I wore good protective equipment, maybe she should have been properly attired in protective gear, I heard she crashed on a training hill? Regardless, I hope her family will endure this strongly and lets use this as a lesson to us all....dress appropr
