    Whitney Houston Remembered: 5 Great Reality Covers (Video)

    Whitney Houston inspired a generation of performers, and singing competition programs from American Idol to The X Factor have allowed budding stars to showcase what they’ve learned from the legendary singer. Here are some of the finest Houston-inspired moments from the world of reality singing TV.

    “I Have Nothing,” Jennifer Hudson, American Idol  2004

    Idol brought Jennifer Hudson to the national stage. After being a finalist on the program’s third season, she went into star in Dream Girls in 2006 and win a Grammy for her first album in 2008. She will preform a tribute to Houston at the 2012 Grammys.

    “I Will Always Love You,” Yin Yu Chun, One Million Star 2010

    Lin Yu Chun competed in Taiwan’s One Million Star. Though he was voted off the show, video of his performance became an Internet hit. He later performed “I Will Always Love You” for American audiences on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

    “One Moment in Time, Sami Brookes, X Factor 2011

    Sami Brooks wowed judges in during this tryout but was voted off the show in October 2011. There was some controversy among fans, who felt she was not given the opportunity to perform songs which would have served her better in competition.

    “I Have Nothing,” Jack Vidgen, Australia’s Got Talent, 2011

    Young Jack Vidgen’s performance of “I Have Nothing” on Australia’s Got Talent drew judges to their feet. Jack, 15, went onto win the season and later landed a record deal with Sony Music Australia.

    “Where Do Broken Hearts Go?” Pia Toscano, American Idol 2011

    Pia Toscano’s performance was considered perfect by Idol judges. Toscano was considered a frontrunner for the season, and her ninth place finish was considered by to be among the most surprising finishes in Idol history.
