Hong Kong/Amsterdam (December 10, 2012) – Following its powerful release in Taiwan (US$2 million box office thru Warner Brothers), its numerous awards and a successful group of prestigious festival presentations including being the opening film of the just concluded 2012 Marrakesh International Film Festival, it was announced today by Fortissimo Films that Well Go USA Entertainment has acquired all North American rights to TOUCH OF THE LIGHT, Taiwan’s official entry this year for the Academy Awards® foreign language category.
The film is presented by Wong Kar Wai and is a Block 2 and Sil Metropole Limited presentation of a Jet Tone Films and Sil-Metropole Organization Limited Production. Produced by Jacky Pang Yee-Wah and Cheung Hong-Tat, with Chan Ye-Cheng and Song Dai serving as Executive Producers. The film is the debut feature of award winning short filmmaker Chang Jung-Chi. Based on true events related to the life of Taiwan’s young, blind piano prodigy HUANG Yu-Hsiang (played by himself), the film is a story of inspiration, discovery and love. The film also stars Sandrine PINNA, and LEE Leih.
The deal was brokered between Doris Pfardrescher, President, Well Go USA Entertainment and Winnie Lau, Fortissimo’s EVP, Sales & Acquisitions. Winnie Lau said, “We are thrilled that Doris and her team at Well Go have so strongly embraced this powerful, award winning emotional film. This continues our relationship with Well Go for Taiwan’s nominated Oscar films following up on our deal last year with them for Warriors of the rainbow: Seediq Bale. We believe they will do a fantastic job in bringing TOUCH OF THE LIGHT to the North American audience. Well Go continues to demonstrate their growing commitment to bringing the best in world class Asian cinema to this market.”
It is expected that the film will be released in North America in Spring 2013.
