TV and film actor Philip Bruns dead at 80

NEW YORK (AP) — The actor who played the father on the 1970s comedy series "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," has died. Philip Bruns was 80.

Spokesman Joseph Armillas says Bruns died Wednesday in Los Angeles of natural causes.

Bruns appeared on two seasons of "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman," playing Mary's father on the soap-opera parody. He also spent three years with Jackie Gleason on his comedy-variety show in the mid-1960s.

Born in Pipestone, Minn., Bruns attended Yale University's drama school, then began his career in New York on the stage and as a prolific actor in TV commercials.

He later went to Los Angeles, appearing in more than 40 feature films, including "Flashdance," ''The Stunt Man" and "My Favorite Year."

Bruns is survived by his wife, actress Laurie Franks.

On Yahoo if you want to see pictures, GOOGLE for them. Yahoo does not want to exert themselves too much by posting pictures.

Are all the hard drives at the office filled with pictures of the Kardashians? Is that why Yahoo never seems to be able to put pictures with the vast majority of these news stories? I know most of them are taken from the AP and such, but come on would it kill someone at Yahoo to take the two seconds to GOOGLE an image to put up? And yes, I went there.

Actors ALWAYS have head shots! Maybe not current ones, but something identifiable. In addition, if the actor did TV, you could at least put up a screen shot! Please, please, PUH-LEEZE......Post a photo with the obits!!!

I met him at the Holiday Inn in Modesto back in the mid '70s...the were filming parts of Nickelodeon here and Burt Renolds, Howe Needham (nice guy-gave autograph), Ryan and Tatum O'Neil (Rude) and Philip Brun were hanging out between shoots. We rode dirt bikes in the area and used to stop by H.Inn to play pinball. Philip Brun walks over (prolly noticed we were po' kids) and dumps about 50 quarters in the machine and says "watch this"...then calls over a buddy and says "look at all the games I won!...try to beat that!"...He winked at us and let us play the rest of the games....Really nice guy who stopped to smell the roses...RIP
