'Ted,' 'Silver Linings Playbook' Top MTV Movie Awards Nominees

With the dust settled on the 2013 awards season, several industry darlings and box-office hits -- including Silver Linings Playbook, Django Unchained, Ted and The Dark Knight Rises – will continue soliciting votes into the start of the summer blockbuster season.

MTV on Tuesday announced the categories and nominees for the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, with Quentin Tarantino’s American slave Western and Oscar host Seth MacFarlane’s teddy bear comedy leading the pack with seven nominations apiece. The films are trailed by Silver Linings, with six nominations, and the final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy with five.

The Avengers, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pitch Perfect and Skyfall are up for four awards each.

The fan-voted awards will be announced April 14 at the annual ceremony, broadcast live at 9 p.m. ET and delayed at 9 p.m. PT. Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson will host the festivities at the Sony Pictures Lot in Culver City. Voting is open at MovieAwards.MTV.com.

Keeping with its tradition of pop culture relevance, the MTV Movie Awards introduces two new categories this year: best shirtless performance (Channing Tatum, Taylor Lautner, Daniel Craig, Christian Bale and MacFarlane’s Ted are nominated) and best musical moment (Les Miserables, Magic Mike, Pitch Perfect, Silver Linings Playbook, Perks of Being a Wallflower). MTV announced last week that Will Ferrell will receive the inaugural Comedic Genius Award at the ceremony.

Jennifer Lawrence, who took home the Academy Award for her leading role in Silver Linings, is up for several acting accolades this time around -- including the infamous best kiss. She will vie for best female performance against Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, Emma Watson and Wilson, but also will face off with Jessica Chastain again in the best scared-as-s**t performance category for House at the End of the Street (Chastain is nominated for Zero Dark Thirty, not Guillermo del Toro’s Mama).
