Sundance 2013: Industry Players Hoist Stanley Cup After Charity Hockey Match

This story first appeared in the Feb. 1 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

The real action at Sundance on Jan. 20 wasn’t on Main Street but at a nearby ice rink, where celebrities and former NHL players went toe-to-toe for a hockey match hosted by L.A. Kings Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille to raise money for the at-risk-youth org Echoes of Hope.

Justified heavy Neal McDonough and Sony Pictures Classics co-president Tom Bernard tapped sticks against the glass to greet their wives, and Smallville alum Michael Rosenbaum, benched with a case of plantar fasciitis, was the butt of jokes: “How’s your plantar wart?” one player taunted.

After the game, participants took pics with the visiting Stanley Cup.
