Stewart suits up for battle in 'Snow White'

Kristen StewartKristen StewartSAN DIEGO (AP) — Kristen Stewart dons armor and wields a huge sword and shield for her next movie. Rest assured, it will not be your mother and father's Snow White.

Stewart joined other cast and crew Saturday at the Comic-Con fan convention for a preview of next year's "Snow White and the Huntsman," an action-packed twist on the fairy tale.

The "Twilight" star told a Comic-Con crowd that doing a sweet, traditional Snow White was not something "I was jumping at." What attracted her was that this Snow White was a bold leader with her feet firmly on the ground.

"Also, I get to have a sword and stuff," Stewart said. "Really cool weapons."

The movie is due out next June and is one of two "Snow White" movies Hollywood has coming. The other, due out next March, features Julia Roberts as the evil queen.

The cast of Stewart's "Snow White" includes Charlize Theron as the wicked queen, Chris Hemsworth as a rugged huntsman and Sam Claflin as a prince.

The movie starts shooting in a few weeks. Director Rupert Sanders showed off photos of the stars in costume, among them Stewart in her fighting outfit and Theron in a sleek black gown with savagely high and sharp collars.

    How evil is Theron's queen?

"She's a serial killer," Theron said. "I'm pretty much preparing to play a serial killer."

Sanders also showed a photo of the dwarves that accompany Snow White in this version, all standing in a row looking scruffier than a gang in a police lineup. The actors playing them include Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost and Toby Jones.

There are eight dwarves rather than the usual seven. Sanders said "there are eight because there are a few great lines when one of them gets killed."

yaaaay! GO KRISTEN! your critics are red hot jealous hecklers!!! they still find time posting negative comments against your acting prowess! Not realizing that the more comments (either positive or negative) the more popular a celebrity is! i'm sure they will say that this and that actress is better than you. But the point is, they don't have the magic and the charm of KRISTEN STEWART! So eat your heart out Kristen haters!!! hahahahaha!....

Snow White was originally penned by the Brothers Grimm and a very dark tale... Disney just calmed it down and made the "sweet" adventure out of it that we all know & love, so please don't go around thinking that this Fairy Tale is in any way being corrupted!

Why does she have the Tree of Gondor on her shield?

Two Snow Whites in one year, just like two Friends with Benefits, and something from a comic. Hollywood has lost it's imagination. It's like they think that if they spend a lot of money on special effects and computer generated stuff that it'll make up for the lack of imagination. What happened to movies like 12 Angry Men and Casablanca?

Anyone else notice the White Tree of Gondor on her shield...

Of course these stories weren't meant to appease children. Disney "softened" most of the stories that were actually meant to frighten. Look at faeries. I'd estimate that 85% of the population believes that faeries are tiny, magical, harmless creatures that flutter and help children. When in reality, folklore says that they were mischievous, not always tiny, often harmful, and that they abducted people. But tell that to someone and they're ready to say: "But I thought faeries were nice."

I still think she would have been better as Sleeping Beauty. Asleep her acting may have improved.

Why are we always getting movies made from old stories or comic books or even remakes of other movies. This is so stupid. Whatever happened to writing your OWN story, and
      creating something ORIGINAL!

A bit annoyed they chose her. My dance class tells us not to pull a 'Kristin Stewart' due to the fact she has no emotion....

Well if it's a role where it doesn't require much smiling or you know 'really versatile' acting, Kristen will do great in it.

Lord of the Rings called... they want their shield back.

If she makes the same facial expressions like in that vampire movie I will walk out of the theater cursing! Movies cost too much to see the same lame clueless face being made for EVERY "emotional" expression! She's cute... but not that cute.

My friends and I started a drinking game. We watched twilight on HBO and every time this chick looks confused/bites her lip we take a shot. Least to say, no one made it to the end of the film before laughing, hysterically drunk!

Couldn't they find an actress to do this?

Sounds horrible. Im all for going back to the darker side of fairytails but I just have a bad feeling about this. Plus this chick just plain sucks. -_-

She always has the same facial expression in all of her movies. If she is so miserable, why act? If she is as constipated as she was as Bella, I'll have to pass on this film.

The Grimm brothers actually did not "write" Snow White - they traveled and collected folk tales and put them in a book. They did compile various versions of the story into one cohesive tale. Regardless, in both Snow White and Rose Red and in Little Snow White, the main character NEVER dons a suit of armor, there are NOT 8 elves, and I doubt Snow White would ever say "...I get to have a sword and stuff." I am excited that the industry is finally recognizing traditional tales as a valid basis for movies, but I don't agree with the casting of Kristen Stewart, who in everything I have seen her in plays the exact same character...and poorly at that. I am excited to see Charlize Theron though!
