The sound editors of Argo, Life of Pi, Skyfall and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey earned three nominations each — the most in the feature categories — for the 60th Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards.
All four films were nominated for outstanding sound editing in the feature film categories of sound effects and Foley, dialogue and ADR, and music.
Earning two feature nominations each are the sound editors behind Django Unchained, The Dark Knight Rises and Lincoln.
Nominees for best sound editing, music, in a musical feature are the teams behind Joyful Noise, Les Miserables, Pitch Perfect and Rock of Ages.
The sound editors of A Cat in Paris, Brave, The Lorax, Frankenweenie, ParaNorman, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Rise of the Guardians and Wreck-it Ralph will compete in the category for best sound editing in an animated feature.
MPSE will present its filmmaker award to director Ang Lee and its career achievement award to Foley artist John Roesch during this year's awards ceremony, which will be held Feb. 17 at the Westin Bonaventure.
The Golden Reel Awards recognize sound editing in 22 categories encompassing feature films, television, animation, computer entertainment and student work.
