LONDON – Syco Entertainment, Simon Cowell's joint venture with Sony Music, is teaming with British movie banner Vertigo Films to co-produce a fictional film about 2012 Britain’s Got Talent winners Pudsey and Ashleigh.
Pudsey: The Movie is set to star dancing dog Pudsey and his trainer Ashleigh Butler whose act won Cowell's talent search show and audience adolation in the U.K. and abroad. The project, billed as a family film, is being developed and produced by Syco and Vertigo.
It is scheduled to shoot this spring with a Christmas 2013 release pencilled in with Vertigo Distribution handling the U.K. theatrical release.
The fictional movie will star Pudsey and is likely include at least cameos from trainer Butler. It has been scripted by top kids TV writer Paul Rose.
Pudsey and Ashleigh won Britain’s Got Talent in May in a finale that drew a healthy 14.5 million TV viewers. The pair is also a YouTube sensation with the duo's audition for the show garnering more than 12 million hits alone to-date.
Pudsey has made appearances on The Jay Leno Show and America’s Got Talent.
Vertigo's producer credits include The Sweeney and Monsters. The firm also worked with former Britain’s Got Talent winners George Sampson, a dancer, and dance troupe Diversity in local box office sensation StreetDance 3D.
Syco produces TV formats including The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent.
Cowell's feature output includes Morgan Spurlock’s documentary about U.K. boy band and X Factor contestants One Direction, which is currently in production, and David Frankel’s biopic One Chance, about Paul Potts, a film starring James Corden as Britain’s Got Talent’s first winner in 2007.
The co-production deal was signed by Rupert Preston for Vertigo and Mark Brittain on behalf of Syco.
