Reese Witherspoon Lines Up 'Depth of Field,' Enters Talks for 'Passengers'

In case you were wondering if Reese Witherspoon will still be able to find work in lieu of recent tabloid headlines, rest assured, she will.

Not only did the actress set up a new project titled "Depth of Field" at Fox 2000 on Wednesday, but now TheWrap has learned she's in talks to join Keanu Reeves in Wayfare Entertainment's sci-fi love story "Passengers."

Brian Kirk ("Game of Thrones") is directing "Passengers" from a script by Jon Spaihts ("Prometheus").

Story finds Reeves onboard a spaceship where he wakes up early from a cryogenic sleep chamber. Not wanting to be alone, he decides to wake up a female passenger, who may be played by Witherspoon.

"Depth of Field" is based on sportswriter Lynne Truss' bestselling memoir "Get Her Off the Pitch," which was never published in the U.S. but was discovered in an Australian bookstore by screenwriter J. Mills Goodloe, who will adapt the script. The project will be developed as a star vehicle for Witherspoon, who will produce with her Pacific Standard partner Bruna Papandrea and Karen Rosenfelt ("The Twilight Saga").

It seems fair to note that Witherspoon is developing more than 15 projects according to IMDb, none of which appear to be actively moving forward with the exception of Gillian Flynn's bestselling mystery novel "Gone Girl," which is shaping up to be David Fincher's next movie.

Witherspoon can currently be seen playing refreshingly against type as Matthew McConaughey's love interest in Jeff Nichols' Southern drama "Mud," and she also co-stars alongside Colin Firth in the upcoming West Memphis 3 drama "Devil's Knot." She's repped by CAA and Management 360.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Witherspoon's casting in Passengers, while Deadline first reported her involvement with "Depth of Field."
