    Ratings: Returning CBS Comedies Rise; NBC's 'Deception' Not So Lucky

    CBS's Monday nght comedy slate returned after a month-long hiatus to ratings gains, giving the network an overall win for the night, while NBC's new offering "Deception" slid  from last week's premiere.

    Meanwhile, the CW's "The Carrie Diaries" premiered to a promising start, according to preliminary numbers.

    CBS took a solid first place in the advertiser-preferred 18-49 demographic with a 3.3 rating/8 share and in total viewers with 10.7 million. "How I Met Your Mother" at 8 p.m. grew 12 percent from its last original a month ago, taking a 3.8/10 and drawing 10.4 million total viewers -- season highs for the series in both the demo and total viewership.

    Following a repeat of "The Big Bang Theory" at 8:30, "2 Broke Girls" at 9 grew 17 percent for a 4.1/10 -- the night's best performance in the demo -- and hit a season high in total viewership with 12.2 million total viewers, which was also the night's highest total viewership.

    "Mike & Molly" at 9:30 inched up to a 3.5/9 and hit a season high in total viewers with 11.5 million, while "Hawaii 5-0" remained even with its last original four weeks ago, posting a 2.4/6 and taking 9.4 million total viewers.

    ABC took second place in ratings and total viewers with a 2.2/6 and 8 million. "The Bachelor" at 8 inched up from last week for a 2.4/6 and took 7.4 million total viewers, while "Castle" at 10 drew a 1.9/5 and took 9.1 million total viewers.

    Fox tied NBC for third in ratings with a 2.1/5 and took third place outright in total viewers with 7.9 million. "Bones" at 8 posted a 2.1/6, up 11 percent from its last original airing on Dec. 3, and drew 8.1 million total viewers -- a season high in total viewership -- while a second episode of "Bones" the following hour drew a 2.1/5 with 7.8 million total viewers.

    NBC came in fourth in total viewers with 5.6 million. "The Biggest Loser" at 8 drew even with last week's time-period premiere for a 2.4/6 and had 6.3 million total viewers, while the new drama "Deception" at 10 fell off 20 percent from its series premiere last week, posting a 1.6/4 and taking 4.2 million total viewers.

    At the CW, the series premiere of the "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries" at 8 drew a 0.6/2 in the demo and had 1.6 million total viewers, the highest total viewership in the time period for the network since May 2011. The network aired a repeat of the pilot the following hour.
