Ratings: Golden Globes Spike to Give NBC a Win

Ratings for the Golden Globe Awards were up 29 percent Sunday, pushing NBC to a ratings victory even as ABC won the night in total viewers, according to preliminary numbers.

While NBC's numbers are approximate due to the nature of live program, the network currently holds first place in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic with a 4.7 rating/11 share and second place in total viewers with 14.8 million. Red carpet coverage of the Globes at 7 p.m. drew a 2.5/6 and attracted 9.9 million total viewers, while the awards ceremony itself posted a 5.4/13 and 16.4 million total viewers.

While CBS' ratings are also approximate because of the nature of live sports, the network currently holds a close second place in ratings and first place in total viewers with a 4.6/11 and 16.8 million total viewers. Overrun from the AFC divisional playoffs at 7 grabbed a 10.8/27 and drew 31.9 million total viewers, while additional overrun from the game combined with "60 Minutes" the following hour posted a 3.7/9 and had 14.8 million total viewers. At 9, spillover from "60 Minutes" combined with "The Good Wife" scored a 1.94 and 10 million total viewers, while the conclusion of "The Good Wife" combined with "The Mentalist" at 10 posted a 2.0/5 with 10.4 million total viewers.

Fox took third place in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 2.1/5 and 4.2 million. Without the benefit of the lead-in from last week's NFC wildcard game and facing competition from the Globes, most of the network's shows declined. Following a "Bob's Burgers" repeat at 7, a new episode of "The Cleveland Show" posted a 1.4/3 -- even with its last original four weeks ago -- and had 2.7 million total viewers. "The Simpsons" at 8 drew a 2.4/6 -- down 43 percent from last week -- and had 5 million total viewers. A new "Bob's Burgers" at 8:30 dropped 26 percent from last week to a 2.3/5 and had 4.5 million total viewers. "Family Guy" at 9 dropped 14 percent to a 3.1/7 with 5.9 million total viewers. "American Dad" also slid 14 percent, pulling a 3.1/7 and attracting 4.8 million total viewers.

ABC took fourth place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.8/4 and 5.6 million, with many of its offerings tying or matching series lows. "America's Funniest Home Videos" at 7 pulled even with its last original five weeks ago with a 1.4/3 and 6.2 million total viewers, while "Once Upon a Time" the following hour slid 10 percent to a 2.8/7 with 8.1 million total viewers. "Revenge" at 9 dropped 17 percent to match a series low of 2.0/4 and took 6 million total viewers. "Happy Endings" at 10 hour drew even with last week and tied its own series low, posting a 1.0/2 and drawing 2.2 million total viewers. "Don't Trust the B--- in Apt. 23" dropped of 11 percent from last week to hit a series low of 0.8/2 and had 1.8 million total viewers.
