Michael Bay has cast two Camaros to play Bumblebee in “Transformers 4,” with the director using his website on Tuesday to introduce Chevrolet’s concept version of the muscle car that will portray the shape-shifting robot in the film.
“Trumpets please,” the helmer posted on the site, adding, “Bumblebee, a 2014 Concept Camaro! …the final jewel in the ‘Transformers 4′ crown.”
Bay already had revealed a 1967 Camaro SS that will portray another version of Bumblebee in the film. Newer vehicle will not be produced by Chevy for dealerships but was conceived by designers as a vision of what a next-gen Camaro might look like. GM loaned Bay a concept version of a Cadillac in “The Island.”
Bumblebee was also portrayed by Chevy’s Camaro in Bay’s three other “Transformers” films, with the car and character also showcased in the Universal Studios theme park attractions in Hollywood and Orlando.
The 2014 Camaro is the ninth vehicle Bay has revealed on MichaelBay.com over the last several weeks, which has also included a Western star truck as the new Optimus Prime character, and a Pagani Huayra sports car, a 2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Coupe, a Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse, a Freighliner truck and a C7 Corvette Stingray as other characters.
Bay started production on “Transformers 4″ last month, in Utah’s Monument Valley, that stars Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles, Li Bingbing and T.J. Miller. Paramount has set a June 27, 2014 release date for the actioner that’s also lensing in Texas and Michigan.
