'Liz & Dick' Hangover: The Twitter Reactions

Critical reviews of Sunday night's Elizabeth Taylor biopic Liz & Dick may have been harsh, but they weren't anything in comparison to the drubbing that the Lifetime film received by those who were live-tweeting it when it aired.

STORY:  'Liz & Dick': What the Critics Are Saying

Lifetime prominently promoted live discussion of the film with the hashtag #lizanddick in the corner of TV screens and the tag quickly became popular on the social-networking site. On a quiet holiday evening, few things seemed to unite many Twitter feeds more than making quips about the Lifetime movie.

The vitriol, of course, also brought out a backlash to the backlash of the film, including Lady Gaga and author Bret Easton Ellis (who wrote Lohan's next film, The Canyons). Both of them defended Lohan's performance in Liz & Dick.

Below, a few of the prominent Twitter reactions to the film:

I'm thoroughly enjoying and consistently amused by Liz & Dick. The haters went overboard on this one.

@lindsaylohan you did a beautiful job on Liz & Dick, Let no one bring u down, Liz didnt, they always try to knock the greats down a few pegs

Dear @lindsaylohan: I give you permission to Tweet me to smithereens when I do Lifetime's CHAZ BONO: THE CRUELEST CUT in March. #lizanddick

I get the feeling the phrase "It is what it is" was said a lot in the editing room. #lizanddick

Lindsay Lohan's probation will be revoked because she lied to police. The same goes for her SAG card after playing Elizabeth Taylor.

In their defense, everyone else in #LizAndDick thought they were making "Innocence of Muslims. "

Refusing to get sucked into #lizanddick. Refusing to get sucked into #lizanddick. Do. Not. Reach. For. Remote control.

If the dead could sue, the producers of "Liz and Dick" would be in court this morning.

I just realized Liz & Dick is on. No, I wasn’t watching it, but I can literally smell it.
