    Las Vegas Film Events from August 19 - 25, 2011

    For Aug. 19 to 25, 2011, Las Vegas features a number of free and affordable film screenings and events for both Las Vegas locals and tourists. These include movie events in Clark County libraries, theaters, parks, hotels, and independent venues. Many of these events are slated on the weekend and on Aug. 25.

    Friday, August 19

    The District at Green Valley Ranch features "Mulan" for its "The Outdoor Picture Show" program. The free screening starts at 7:30 p.m. at The Green, which is adjacent to Whole Foods Market and The Carousel. Complimentary popcorn is provided for this family movie night. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, picnic baskets, and refreshments. The District is located at 2240 Village Walk Dr. Henderson, NV 89052.

    The Bruce Trent Park hosts a free movie screening starting 6:00 p.m. as part of the free back-to-school fair and family movie event at the park. Bruce Trent Park is located at 8851 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89128. For inquiries, call (702) 229-2524.

    Saturday, August 20

    The District at Green Valley Ranch features "How to Train Your Dragon" for "The Outdoor Picture Show," which features free screenings of family-friendly movies at The Green. Complimentary popcorn is available for attendees. The District is located at 2240 Village Walk Dr. Henderson, NV 89052.

    "The Super Hero Saturday Series, Volume 1" happens at the Theatre7. This event features the shorts "The Super Zero," "The Butcher and The Pandress: The First Meating," "Mind Man Dumb Luck Boy," "The Wrong Taco Shop" and the feature film "Thor at the Bus Stop."     Sunday, August 21

    Theatre7 hosts the free screening of the indie zombie action film "Doomed" at 4:00 p.m. A Q&A with the filmmaker follows after the screening. Theatre7 is located at 1406 S. 3rd St. Las Vegas, NV 89104.

    Tuesday, August 23

    The Clark County Library features the 1965 film "Thunderball" for its "Movie Series: Tuesday Afternoon at the Bijou: Shaken Not Stirred: Connery's Bond" program. Adults and seniors are encouraged to come to the free screening, which starts at 1:00 p.m. at the library's main theater. Clark County Library is located at 1401 E. Flamingo Rd. Las Vegas, NV 89119.     Thursday, August 25

    "RAW: Las Vegas Presents Fusion" features the independent film "Technophilia" at Tommy Rocker's Las Vegas. This Philippine-Korean-Iraqi short film opens the artists' showcase at 8:30 p.m. in a night of film, music and other art performances, art exhibitions, and fashion show. The event features local Las Vegas artists. Tickets are $10 via presale at Raw Artists website. Tommy Rocker's is located at 4275 Dean Martin Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89103.

    The Vegas Cine Fest holds a screening of "Quality Time" by James Redford at the Tropicana Las Vegas from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available at $10. The Opening Screening and After Party follow by 4:00 p.m. to 11:50 p.m. at Tropicanas' Nikki Beach Club. Tickets are available from $50 to $80. Festival tickets are sold at www.brownpapertickets.com.     The Town Square Park holds an outdoor screening of the Disney animated film "Tangled." This is the last for this year's Town Square summer movie series entitled "Movies in the Square." Screening begins at sundown right after the live entertainment and activities for kids and their families. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Town Square is located at 6605 S.     The Enterprise Library invites teens to the "Enterprise at the Movies" program for a special screening of a selected animated feature.
