Kelly Ripa: I Serve My Husband Breakfast on a Tray

Kelly Ripa's a real housewife in her downtime!

The talk show star, 41, tells the March issue of Good Housekeeping that she doesn't mind doting on hubby Mark Consuelos the old fashioned way.

"I make his coffee every day," she tells the magazine of Consuelos, 40, with whom she has three kids. "I cook him breakfast in bed every weekend: scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon, wheat toast, and coffee with cream. That’s what he wants. And I serve it to him on a tray."

And Ripa also takes pains to give her hunk some space, she adds. "I don't give him a hard time about seeing his friends. Or for doing things independently, like taking a weekend biking trip with his racing friends. He doesn't need to take me everywhere or do everything with me. I'm very much about us having our own separate time."

Consuelos won't ever be nagged at, either. "I don't give him a hard time about not doing things around the house, like taking out the trash."

PHOTOS: LOL! See Kelly as Kim Kardashian on her wedding day

How does the couple steal away downtime with Michael, 14, Lola, 10, and Joaquin, 8, underfoot?

"After the kids go to bed, we have a couple of hours when it's just us. We either talk about the day or watch one of our favorite TV shows. Otherwise, there'd be no time," she says.

"We used to go away, just the two of us, for three days to celebrate our anniversary every year. I can't remember the last time we did that."

I treat my husband the same, as he treats me. We also have separate time, as we don't necessarily have the same hobbies. Mark and Kelly have been married for a a long time so they're doing something right. I've been married 22 yrs, no complaints.

Im sure he does nice things for her as well. This is why they have lasted longer than the typical celebrity marriage. You have to give, not just take.

And when you've given all you can, Give again, give again, give again. That's from Missing Persons ( Give song ) you know?

It's nice that you have insight to offer on this couple.

I wonder, she didn't mention anything he does for her. I've been married for 28 years and it is give and take and it's also a job. Whatever makes her happy.

Minus serving her spouse in bed, sounds surprisingly normal to me. Or at least a good model for others to pattern themselves by.

I serve my wife breakfast on the weekends. I make her coffee every morning. Why am I not in 'celebrity' status? (lol). Btw I've been doing it a lot longer than Kelly has so my 'celebrity status invite' must have "gotten lost in the mail', ya think?

You go Bob!! You're a real man! You can stand above this celeb nonsense. Hope I have a sweet husband like you. I want to be with someone I can spoil, lol. Of course I want to be spoiled too ;)

And this is why they have such a successful marriage, they have a real partnership, trust, and above all else love..I mean the fact that they give each other time away to hang with their respective friends and at the end of the day be able to relax and talk and enjoy each other...I'm so happy for them and I'm sure their kids feel secure and happy as well! How refreshing in this day and age!

I see nothing wrong with doing stuff for your spouse, as long as your spouse reciprocates and also serves you, etc...

who the heck voted this down?

        That's what I wonder.

amen sister. its all about give and take. my husband does all the shoveling, yard work, cleans the bathrooms (god i hate that) and does the laundry. AND he works all day and shares the baby responsibilities. All that puts a smile on my face and makes my life easier. Making breakfast for him on the weekends puts a smile on his face and that makes me smile too. People who do not get this will never have a successful marriage.

Well, sounds okay but I have one question: If he does not take out the TRASH who does?
      • Rachel S 3 months ago

I think that is admirable. She is just a sweet heart and he is lucky to have her.

There is a difference between doing something because you want to and being demanded. I use to shave my husband because he liked the straight razor. A secret thrill seeker. Always before any arguement started.

Good for her old fashioned values, you don't see that much anymore. I am sure her husband reciprocates as well, that makes for a good marriage!

Sounds reasonable to me, as long as he does things for her as well. I imagine they have a housekeeper, so the trash being taken out isn't that big of a deal. :)

My husband will sometimes bring me breakfast in bed, and sometimes he cooks dinner, sometimes I do. We just do nice things for each other all the time, always say please and thank you. We enjoy cooking together, and share in the household duties. We like to buy each other gifts when we go to the store (silly things like a cupcake or a magazine.) Oddly enough, we're getting a divorce next month. Go figure.

Sign me up for this. And then pinch me everyday just so I know I am not dreaming. Ohwell, I can dream, can't I?

Sounds like they both get what they want: time toegther, time apart for seperate interests. Marriage must be reciprocal. Typically when you take care of your partner, your partner takes care of you. That;s how my wife and I do it, and appearanty is works for Kelly & Mark...

Read that article headline and tell me it isn't biased. By using the word "admit" this somehow implies that Kelly Ripa is doing something wrong. If she doesn't see anything wrong with it then honestly, its no one's business. Its not like her husband is demanding it or beating her if she forgets. You know, sometimes women do these things because they genuinely like to do them. I do! Everything she wrote is comparable to my marriage. I guess I just "admitted" something. ooooooooo. shame on me. give me an f'ing break.

I agree about not having to be joined at the hip. But I can't help but be curious--what does he do for HER in this "partnership"?
    • sucraM  •  Nashville, Tennessee  •  3 months ago
I'm hoping that her husband has his own way of giving back to her the way she does him. It's the little things like that that tend to be taken for granted over time. I think every couple would love to get away and experience more moments together like they used to back in the beginning...and the little things you do for each other are ways of showing that if you could...you still would. Time for those moments shouldn't ever go away. I could be wrong though...I'm no expert. Whatever they're doing...it seems to be working.
