Jeffrey Thompson to Lead Digital Push at Shout! Factory

Jeffrey Thompson has joined multiplatform entertainment company Shout! Factory as vice president of digital strategy and business development, it was announced Wednesday.

In the newly created role, Thompson will lead development of digital strategies and digital video partnerships to continue growing Shout! Factory’s cross-platform initiatives that leverage its content-curation abilities. He reports to company co-founder and president Garson Foos.

Shout! is looking for more direct-to-consumer distribution of its expansive pop-culture library to include mobile, tablet, apps, online and connected TV platforms, especially important given the launch of its Video Time Machine iOS app.

In partnership with entertainment industry veteran Fred Seibert, Shout! acquired the Video Time Machine app from Original Victories Inc. in June.

Thompson most recently served as vice president of digital strategy and business development for Conde Nast Entertainment, developing opportunities with such brands as Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair and Wired. He previously worked as vice president of global business development at the Walt Disney Co., charged with growing incremental revenue for theatrical and home entertainment releases by developing and implementing strategies to drive conversion to digital platforms like Blu-ray.

In 2006, Thompson co-produced Schooled, a brand-funded back-to-school special distributed on ABC Family and Google Video. It was developed for viewing on broadcast and emerging digital platforms, particularly online and mobile.

“We’re undergoing significant growth at a time of exciting change in the entertainment industry and technology trends,” Foos said. “Sharing pop-culture faves that we love across multi-screens is an integral part of our expansion strategy.”

Added Thompson: “Shout! Factory has a reputation for curating great classic content, including the successful launch of the Scream Factory brand, and I look forward to helping them take advantage of emerging platforms to allow new audiences to enjoy that content wherever they choose.”

Thompson serves on the board of advisors for Digital Hollywood and the board of the Congressional Awards Foundation in Washington.

By Todd Cunningham LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Iron Man 3" was soaring past $1 billion at the worldwide box office Thursday, in a display of world domination that would make one of Marvel's super villains proud. The box-office bounty - roughly $700 million from abroad and $300 million domestically - is a major triumph for Disney, which bet big on comic book superheroes when it bought Marvel Studios for $4 billion in 2009.
