Hulu and Lionsgate have announced a 10-episode order for the half-hour series Deadbeat a supernatural comedy from co-creators Cody Heller and Brett Konner, who previously worked on FX's Wilfred.
The project, which will be produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment, is the first co-production for Hulu and Lionsgate.
Troy Miller, who previously worked on Flight of the Conchords and Arrested Development, will direct and executive produce all episodes of the series through his Dakota Pictures banner.
Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg will produce the series for Plan B.
"On behalf of the Hulu team, we are very proud to be working with Cody, Brett, Troy and the talented executives of Lionsgate and Plan B on this uniquely funny and imaginative show," said Charlotte Koh, Hulu's head of development in a statement. "Deadbeat is a welcome addition to our growing slate of smart, distinctive original programming."
Lionsgate Television president Kevin Beggs added, "We're enjoying a wonderful collaboration with Hulu and all our creative partners on Deadbeat. This fun, edgy and provocative series is a perfect fit for Hulu's audience and an exciting expansion of Lionsgate's programming across digital platforms."

Production on Deadbeat is slated to begin in the fall and the show will air on Hulu and Hulu Plus in the U.S. next year. Lionsgate will distribute the show internationally.
Deadbeat is just the latest original series launched by the streaming service -- owned by Disney, 21st Century Fox and NBCUniversal -- as it seeks to compete with Netflix and Amazon. Hulu has already rolled out Seth Meyers' The Awesomes, western comedy Quick Draw and other original content.
