Adding its voice to the current wave of film and TV honors with its Dorian Awards, The Gay and Lesbian Entertainment Critics Association has nominated six movies for best film of the year: Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Keep the Lights On, Les Miserables, Lincoln and Moonrise Kingdom.
The group, founded in 2008 and consisting of 80 film and TV critics and entertainment journalists, also singled out five titles as LGBT Film of the Year: Any Day Now, Cloud Atlas, Gayby, Keep the Lights On and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
The GLECA also found room for the anti-Obama documentary 2016: Obama’s America among its nominees for Campy Flick of the Year, which also includes Cloud Atlas, Magic Mike, The Paperboy, Pitch Perfect and Rock of Ages.
Categories also include Visually Striking Film of the Year -- nominees include Anna Karenina, Cloud Atlas, Les Miserables, Life of Pi and Moonrise Kingdom -- and Unsung Film of the Year, which has Bernie, The Cabin in the Woods, Chronicle, Holy Motors, Looper and Your Sister’s Sister.
On the TV side, the nominees for LGBT Show of the Year are American Horror Story, Happy Endings, Modern Family, The New Normal and Smash.
For Wilde Artist of the Year, the group nominated TV creators Lena Dunham, Louis C.K. and Ryan Murphy, Lincoln screenwriter Tony Kushner and writer/director Tig Notaro.
Ian McKellan will be honored with the group’s Timeless Award for an “exemplary career marked by character, wisdom and wit.”
Winners of the Dorian Awards will be announced Jan. 16.
