In a statement, the studio said:
“Continuing the global exploits in the franchise built on speed, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead the returning cast of FAST & FURIOUS 7, which will be released by Universal Pictures on April 10, 2015. James Wan directs this chapter of the hugely successful series, and Neal H. Moritz and Vin Diesel return as producers.”
A spokeswoman confirmed that the release date was pushed to Friday, April 10, 2015. Walker was killed in a car crash on Thanksgiving weekend.
The release of “Fast & Furious 7″ has been pushed to 2015, Vin Diesel wrote on his Facebook page Sunday night. Diesel starred in most of the films in the popular series alongside Walker.
Production on the seventh “Fast” film was more than half-completed when Walker died, but has been on hold since the tragic accident. Executives at Universal, the film’s studio, have been discussing how to proceed since Walker’s death, meeting with the filmmakers, including director James Wan, producer Neal Moritz and writer Chris Morgan.
Here’s what Diesel wrote Sunday:
“The last scene we filmed together…
There was a unique sense of completion, of pride we shared… in the film we were now completing… the magic captured… and, in just how far we’ve come…
Fast and Furious 7 will be released…
April 10th 2015!
P.s. He’d want you to know first…”
Walker was returning to an event for his charity with his friend Roger Rodas when their car crashed. Universal had not indicated how it would proceed beyond delaying production. As TheWrap previously reported, the film’s producers have considered starting from scratch.
Diesel produced several of the recent films, in which Walker played Brian O’Conner, an LAPD officer turned member of an international criminal crew.
