- "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" offers exactly two big laughs for its kiddo target audience — one involves passing gas, the other a shot to the crotch.

Since there's a fair amount of time between these two bits of comic invention, young and old alike have ample opportunity to mull over the movie's head-scratching decisions, which, on further review, still leave us with more questions than answers.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The tune selection might be different, but otherwise it's the same old song with "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," which Fox opens on Wednesday.

Having successfully made the full-length CGI transition with their 2007 smash hit (grossing more than $350 million worldwide), Alvin and the boys apparently had nothing left to prove, judging how very little about this contractual obligation of a sequel feels fresh or inventive.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Less than a month after beaching "Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," Disney's new studio chief has put the kibosh on "Wedding Banned," a romantic comedy to have starred Robin Williams and Diane Keaton.

"Banned" revolves around a long-divorced couple (Williams and Keaton) who kidnap their daughter (Anna Faris) on her wedding day to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did. The parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom. The film's production company, Mandevile Films, is now free to shop it around town.
