Dirty Dancing Remake Is in the Works!

Get ready to have the time of your lives...again!

Lionsgate has announced plans to remake Dirty Dancing, the 1987 classic film that starred Jennifer Grey and the late Patrick Swayze.

    PHOTOS: Remembering Patrick Swayze

The film company has tapped Kenny Ortega, who choreographed the original's iconic numbers, to direct. Variety reports that the remake will incorporate songs from the original -- chestnuts like "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," "Hungry Eyes" and "She's Like the Wind" -- plus more classic 1960s songs and new tunes.

VIDEO: Patrick's most unforgettable screen moments

Set in the 1960s, the first Dirty Dancing took place at a Catskills resort and followed the coming-of-age of teenaged "Baby" (Grey) who falls for a sexy resort dance instructor Johnny (Swayze, who died in 2009) as they work together on a dance routine.

"The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me," director Ortega (who helmed the High School Musical films and Michael Jackson's This Is It) said. "Growing up in the '60s on the dance floor helped define me as a person and as an artist."

    PHOTOS: Jennifer Grey's amazing transformation

Finding stars to fill the shoes of Grey and Swayze will be tough, he admitted. "Patrick Swayze set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him."

Dont ruin a classic it was bad enough that a second part was made out of this movie do not bother make it again it was and its perfect with Patrick and Jennifer there will not be a couple like that again

They cannot improve upon this movie. It's classic, iconic...I haven't even watched the new Footloose, and I won't. You can't replace Kevin Bacon, they won't be able to replace Patrick or Jennifer. These movies are STILL LOVED for a reason. WAKE UP Hollywood!! If the writers need more ideas maybe they could ask their small children. I'm willing to bet the kids have better imaginations and could write better stuff in crayon.

Leave it alone no remake. I can watch that movie every day and ind something new every time. Release it again for all the ones who have not seen it.

Yep...Hollywood is now a bunch of over-aged, brain-dead fogies who did waaaay too many drugs over their adult life. They need a new group of writers...hopefully, talented ones that can write better scripts than the crap (ex. Hangover...Bridemaids) that currently is out.

Why screw with a "remake?" Re-release the original or leave it the hell alone! Next somebody will want to do a remake of Gone With The Wind.

        That would be terrible...

Don't give them any ideas! lol.

that is just what I have been thinking. Some movies just need to be left alone dirty dancing, gone with the wind, dr. zhivago, sound of music. just to name a few.

Not cool. They ruined The Karate Kid. I grew up in the 80's, certain movies should be left alone. What's next? Gremlins, Back To The Future, ET, The Outsiders?
      • need to knowb 9 months ago
LOL The karate kid wasn't even a remake. You can't just call the movie with the same title and have a completely different storyline & setting and call it a remake. They should of made the title something else.

        DON'T GIVE THEM ANY IDEAS!!!

I agree with you. Let's not give them suggestions though. i would HATE it if they remade BTTF
    • nanapete  •  9 months ago
Would you remake The African Queen, The Quiet Man or Gone With The Wind? Dirty Dancing may be a small movie but it is a great Cult Classic. You cheapskates in Hollywood already skrewed up True Grit or should I say True Trash. If you can't think of any good ideas then just shut up and go home.

And really, no one will ever make a better Johnny then Patrick Swayze.
      • Jennifer 9 months ago
I agree with you, gosh will a remake then have people forgetting how wonderful of a performance he made? In honoring his great dancing skills and in his memory, leave the movie alone, no remake!

No one will fill Patrick and Jennifer's shoes! DO NOT REMAKE this film. Dirty Dancing is a classic.
    • Paul  •  9 months ago
      yikes--have they no shame :)
    • Ivulia  •  9 months ago
That"s stupid.... No one will like it ANYWAY. I'ts so PATRICK S. movie.... He was the ONE who made me want to watch that movie AGAIN and AGAIN... What do they try to do? No one can EVER COPY, what Patrick S. DONE. That;s HIS movie and it should stay UNTOUCHED.... I LOVE YOU PATRICK, NO ONE CAN REPLACE YOU at ALL..... The filmmakers are really desperate, if they cannot come with some ORIGINAL story.... SHAME....

OMG do they have to ruin every good movie ever made!
    • MarchGal  •  9 months ago
NO...NO do not remake this classic. I agree that Hollywood continues to REmake hit films and continue to mess them up. Hands-off on 'Dirty Dancing'

I think everyone who loved the original will be disappointed with a remake. Don't mess with a good thing.

im so sick of today movie writers not being original and coming up with their own script. I think its pure laziness remaking an old move. it NEVER is the same and usually worse. Two great actors from the original have since passed, why change our memories of a good thing. That is like someone wanting to remake "The Wizard Of Oz"..would be a bad thing
