"Deus Ex," the cyberpunk-infused series of popular action games, is headed for the big screen.
CBS Films announced Tuesday that it has secured the screen rights to the videogame franchise from Square Enix.
First released in 2000, "Deus Ex" has spawned a number of sequels. Set in a dystopian future, the series stirs together conspiracies involving the Illuminati and Chinese criminal organizations.
The latest entry, "Deus Ex: Human Revolution" (2011) would serve as the primary template for the film. It follows Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist, who must be augmented mechanically in order to unravel global intrigue.
Roy Lee and Adrian Askarieh are attached to produce and John P. Middleton will serve as executive producer.
Executive Vice President of Production Maria Faillace and Creative Executive Alex Ginno are overseeing the project for CBS Films.
