Dallas Sci-Fi Expo at Irving Convention Center Starts February 11

It's February in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas, area and that means time for the first Sci-Fi Expo of the year. The event takes place at the Irving Convention Center (500 W Las Colinas Blvd., Irving, TX -- at the intersection of 114 and NW Highway) on February 11 and 12. If you're a comic book, movie, or TV fan, this is for you.

This quarter's convention boasts a great lineup of talent from movies and TV shows produced by Joss Whedon. Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite, Sean Maher, and Ron Glass of "Firefly" and "Serenity" are signing autographs and greeting fans. Eliza Dushku from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dollhouse" is attending on Saturday only.

The event features actors from other legendary movies and television shows as well. Noah Hathaway ("The Neverending Story," "Battlestar Galactica"), Alexis Cruz ("Stargate," "Drag Me to Hell"), Angie Bolling ("RoboCop,"), James Hampton ("Teen Wolf"), and Alina Andrei ("Transformers," "Dexter") are attending. Some of these celebrities, like Hathaway and Bolling, rarely do public appearances, so meet them while you can.

Professional photo opportunities are available with Dushku and some of the other actors. It's a great chance to get a picture taken with your favorite celebrity that's suitable for framing.

Comic book enthusiasts shouldn't feel left out. Sci-Fi Expo is bringing out the big guns for this one. Eisner Award-winning artist Bill Sienkiewicz ("Elektra: Assassin," "Fantastic Four"), "Swamp Thing" co-creator Bernie Wrightson, Joe Jusko ("Savage Sword of Conan," "The Punisher"), Mark Brooks ("The Amazing Spider-Man," "New X-Men"), and many more are signing autographs and doing sketches.

The Exhibitor Room offers everything a sci-fi or comic book fanatic desires. You'll be able to find t-shirts, toys, collectibles, movies, novels, and anything else you can think of for sale. It's like a flea market for geeks; make sure to bring some of your disposable income.

Sci-Fi Expo kicks off at 11:00 a.m. on both days. It ends at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Parking is available on site and in nearby lots for $5.00. Shuttle service will be provided. General admission tickets for the event cost $15.00. There are VIP, Priority, and autograph ticket packages available as well.
