Fred Andrews, the director of "Creature," has lashed out at anyone that wrote a negative review online of his movie. As a former political consultant and as someone that follows the horror movie industry closely, I have to say that this continues a series of unfortunate events for the director. By lashing out at the critics of his movie, he has created critics of his character.
Fred Andrews did an interview with Fangoria to discuss how "Creature" will go down in history as one of the worst bombs of all time. He took the opportunity to lash out at online writers that gave negative reviews to the movie. There are very few directors that come to mind when trying to think of successful directors that never had a turkey on their hands. Almost every director has had a movie that did not live up to expectations, but very few attack their critics for bad reviews.
I want you to think for a moment. How many TV spots did you see for "Creature" before it came out? Outside of a few of the major horror industry sites, how many advertisements did you see for "Creature?" Chances are good that you will be hard-pressed to think of any examples. That is because there was very little spent to promote the movie. Most of the publicity for the movie came from the online writers that Andrews considers to be "bottom feeders" and "lowbrow."
By showing such negativity to online writers, Andrews is doing nothing more that insuring that he will never receive favorable reviews in the future from many of the sites that die not "get" his movie. I find it humorous that he considers any website or publication that gives him a favorable review as "reputable." He sounds more like an angry child than a man that needs to learn from a defeat.
I wrote about "Creature" before it was released in theaters, but I did not write a review. In the past, I have shied away from movie reviews as they are not my forte. From this point forward, I will find myself shying away from anything to do with Fred Andrews. I have a three-year-old at home. I do not want to deal with a person that acts like a three-year-old outside of my home.
