Comic-Con: Marvel Taking ‘Thor,’ ‘Captain America’ Sequels Despite Disney’s D23 Expo
Despite its own D23 fanfest, scheduled for August, Disney will still make the trek to San Diego Comic-Con, where it will present Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Marvel Studios will once again host its panel in the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H, which seats 6,000 gueests, on Saturday, as it has over the last several years.
Disney has yet to reveal just who will be on stage to discuss the movies. In the past, Marvel has had Joss Whedon and the full cast of “The Avengers” on stage.
Also on board for a panel July 19 are members of the art department of Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger,” who will discuss the process of working together on one film in Hollywood while the movie was being shot in London. Supervising art director John Dexter will moderate the discussion with the team that included conceptual model maker Jeff Frost (“Star Trek Into Darkness”), lead vehicle designer Daniel Simon (“Tron: Uprising”), graphic designer Karen TenEyck (“The Lone Ranger”), set designer and assistant art director Clint Wallace (“Men in Black 3”).

The Mouse House will release “Thor: The Dark World” on Nov. 8, while the “Captain America” sequel is out April 4, 2014.
Disney’s D23 takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center Aug 9-11, where it will promote all-things Disney, including “Planes,” which will be screened in 3D. Disney has opted not to host major presentations at Comic-Con when it produces its D23 Expo every other year.
