Comic-Con: Who Hates 'Lord of the Rings' Films? The Tolkien Family

Peter Jackson told fans at Comic-Con that the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien, who penned "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, does not like his film adaptations of Tolkien's work.

This came up while Jackson was answering questions about his upcoming film of "The Hobbit," as one audience member asked him whether he'd ever adapt another work in Tolkien's oeuvre -- 'The Silmarillion."

The book is a collection of works later edited and published by Tolkien's son, Christopher. It adds to the narrative of middle earth detailed in "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings."

Unlike those books, the Tolkien estate owns all of the rights to "The Silmarillion" and there's just one problem.

"I don't think the Tolkien estate liked those films," Jackson said in reference to the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "I don't think 'The Silmarillion' will go anywhere for quite a long time."

Jackson made a passing reference to his needing to live until he is 110, the chances of which, in his words, are "remote."

Yes, the films that won the most Academy Awards in history and reaped billions at the global box office were a disappointment to the family of their progenitor.
