Christopher Nolan Starts Shooting ‘Interstellar’
Christopher Nolan has begun shooting his space travel project “Interstellar” in Alberta, Canada, with Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway starring.
Paramount and Warner Bros. provided confirmation Tuesday that the script will focus on using a “wormhole” — a theory that would enable space travelers to use shortcuts through space to travel between dimensions.
The studios said that the script is based on the combination of an original idea from Nolan and an existing script by his brother Jonathan Nolan, adding that it chronicles “the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage. “
The project was originally developed in 2006 with Steven Spielberg working from a treatment by Kip S. Thorne, a Caltech physicist who has theorized that wormholes can be used as portals for time travel. Thorne is consulting on the film, as well as serving as executive producer with Jake Myers and Jordan Goldberg.
The film is produced by Nolan’s producing partner Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst.
Cast includes Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Timothee Chalamet, David Oyelowo, Ellen Burstyn and Michael Caine. The film will be released Nov. 7, 2014, with Paramount distributing domestically and Warner Bros. handling international.
