CBS' Under the Dome has found its resident bad boy.
Pan Am and Cloverfield alum Mike Vogel has been tapped to join the cast of the network's sci-fi drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the book by Stephen King, the summer series follows residents in the Chester's Mill community as they deal with the post-apocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town.
Vogel will play Barbie, an Army veteran who is in Chester's Mill on a mysterious mission during which he may or may not have killed a man. He's not a bad guy but at the same time, not someone to be messed with. He's as baffled by the dome as everyone and befriended by an investigative journalist named Julia, though his shadowy past will complicate his relationship with the married woman.
CBS Television Studios will produce the drama, which was picked up straight to series, in association with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television. Neal Baer (A Gifted Man, Law & Order: SVU), King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider and comic scribe Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Lost) -- who penned the Under the Dome television adaptation -- will serve as executive producers. Director Niels Arden Oplev (Unforgettable, Sweden's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) will direct the first episode.
Vogel, whose credits include The Help, Blue Valentine and Poseidon, also has a role in A&E's upcoming Bates Motel drama. He starred as Dean Lowrey on ABC's short-lived Pan Am, in addition to roles on Miami Medical and Grounded for Life. He's repped by WME, GEF Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
The actor joins a cast that includes True Blood's Aisha Hinds, Secret Circle's Britt Robertson, CSI: NY's Natalie Martinez, Jolene Purdy, Nicholas Strong, Alex Koch and Colin Ford.
Under the Dome premieres June 24 on CBS.
