Singer and actress Brandy Norwood gave a surprise performance in South Africa last Saturday during the Nelson Mandela Sports & Cultural day music concert, but there was one minor problem: Only 40 people were left in the 90,000-seat stadium to watch.
The media just picked up on the unfortunate turnout Wednesday through Twitter chatter from the few who stayed to watch Norwood sing to -- as South African musician Kabomo described -- "an empty stadium."
@SizweDhlomo Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off.— Kabomo (@Kabomo) August 17, 2013
@SizweDhlomo it was late. People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience— Kabomo (@Kabomo) August 17, 2013
To the "Boy Is Mine" singer's credit, one fan noted "she held it down performance wise," and pictures (above) prove she kept a humble smile on her face despite the small crowd left at the event honoring the county's ailing former president.
On top of touring, Norwood currently stars on the BET series "The Game."
