'American Idol': This Is Why We're So Tired of You

Remember how "American Idol" is supposed to be about singing? Not Thursday night's episode, which began with the conclusion of the Symone Black fall drama (she's okay) and spent the rest of the hour showing the contestants doing everything but singing.

Sick contestants, whining contestants and squabbling contestants offered drama that spilled across the rest of the episode, as the "Idol" wannabes were challenged to break off into units for the dreaded group performances.

"Tent Girl" Amy Brumfield had the flu. Black -- who wasn't eliminated post-fall and recovery -- had to deal with her annoying stage dad as she tried to find a group. A cop named Alicia was obsessed with finding people who would sing "Joy to the World." And flu-addled contestant Christian Lopez (pictured) crashed in his room while his group panicked about being unprepared.

More than halfway into the episode, only one thing was missing: singing. None of the groups had performed for the judges and none would for the rest of the episode.

The second night of Hollywood Week turned out to be just a preview for Hollywood Week's third night, next week, and viewers were reminded once again how tiresome and filler-packed "American Idol" can be.

We'd point to a video clip from Hollywood Week night two, but, those looking to be wowed by a musical performance probably wouldn't be interested in seeing Christian hurling into a trash can.

I agree with Kimberly Potts. Last night's episode of AI was awful. 99% of the show should have been edited out. This is supposed to be about singing. If next week becomes a repeat of last night's show, then I will stop watching!

American Idol has not been good for several years. Simon Cowell knew this and that's why he left it.

We had been watching but quit when they started showing all the horrible auditions again. Between those and this week's shows, I think I am through.

Yeah, that last episode was a classic case of what NOT to do again on a show about showcasing SINGING talent.

Yes they wonder why their ratings are down. They think making fun of people that cannot sing it is no longer a singing competition but who can be the biggest fool competition.

The show has pretty much run it's course. Try to name the past five winners of AI. People have grown tired of this show and the crown of winner doesn't really mean much anymore as far as you being a success in the music industry. Next!

I was shocked at the whining babies on Idol last night... the one girl had it right, we are 20, fighting for our dream and we stay out till 2 in the morning all the time. The rest of them, whining, falling down for drama ... blah! Real life is evenl tougher kids, suck it up.

Will they please make a show called "Best new Music Artist", where individuals, duos, groups, and bands can play their own music, and have the contest be about who has the most musical talent and plays the best songs? Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger wouldn't have made it to Hollywood on American Idol. The best singer doesn't mean the best album.

        They do its called X-Factor

or Jimi for that matter, and he was the greatest guitarist of all time! American Idol doesn't care about good music, just pretty faces to throw into the revolving door that is called "pop music".

Screw all reality type music shows. Bands need to play, go on the road and pay their dues...not have contracts handed to them by stupid music execs who THINK they know what good music is.

I quit watching American Idol when it became a personality contest instead of a singing competition. That is why I watch the Voice. It is only about singing and talent!

I TOLD YOU YOU SHOULD OF ELIMINATED J LO. STOPPED WATCHING. X FACTOR IS BETTER

I hate X factor because I am tired of Simon's arrogance. I enjoyed Idol without him last year. I don't know about this year. I'm thinking it won't be too hot.

Yea, one ep out of 30 was about the humans behind the music, how dare they! I don't want to know anything about these singers. I just want to listen to them sing. As if they were non human robots. How dare they present them as anything but. I will never watch this show again! Until next week anyway.

The group portion is very boring, too much drama. It's supposed to be American Idol not American Group.

Ethan Jones towered head and shoulders above the rest, and they cut him. I say boycott this show. The judges can't judge talent, they have rocks for brains and put kids with all kinds of pitch problems through. Ethan should go to X-Factor or the Voice, these bonehead judges are absolutely tone deaf.

How ironic that as the medic was tending to the girl that fell off the stage, she hollered "Does anyone have a coke!!!!" Hmm, let's see..Ford is a huge sponser of Idol and..umm..who else..oh yeah...COKE!!!!

Perhaps Simon Cowell can bring Paula back and the X - Factor can rise to the ratings they seek ~ American Idol did not impress me with all the tossed cookies and screaming and whining and disgruntled cop versions taking place, perhaps this has turned to the reality of what goes on to get the hopeful onto the stage with or without the group. That's it the majority of American's thrive on reality T.V. and puking in a bag is sensationalism right
