What I remember

I did not see this movie when it first came out in 95...it presents many of Wong Kar Wai's concerns about memory/lost love/the past in a martial arts context, although it's not really a martial arts movie. The fight sequences are grainy and blurry. Like "2046," this is about a man who cannot escape the memory of a woman he lost. It's not a linear story, so it is demanding. But then that's how memory works, from what I can remember. Again, some really good lines, particularly at the end -- the combo of cello by Yo-yo Ma and the main character's reckoning with his situation really moved me in the final sequence. |
