The timing of this film makes it almost impossible to look at without some politics in mind even though it's really about a guy, not a president. I've been so unhappy with the president that I forgot he was human. The film allows you to like him- in spite of some B I G mistakes (in my opinion). But you get the feeling he means well and tries to stay true to his beliefs which at least allows me to respect him. I may not like who he is, but he doesn't try to cover that up. That alone is refreshing considering the two parties running for office right now.
If you're from the right, you won't like some of the laughs at his expense. If from the left, you won't like being persuaded to like a guy that's popular to dislike, but I think both sides of the aisle will take something away from this film on a human level, and both the acting (by several people) & directing were well done. I believe Stone tried to be more than fair throughout the film. This movie doesn't necessarily need to be seen in the theater, so waiting for DVD won't take anything away. |
