I live in Humboldt County and I went to see this movie because I was curious to see how well done any movie is that was made here, especially one that has the name of this county as its title.
The storyline itself was interesting. A young man flunks out of med-school, and that night decided to go to a local jazz club, where he hooks up with the female singer. After they have sex, she invites him to go home with her, and with nothing else going on in his life at the moment, he accepts.
In this movie, I recognized Confusion Hill, and the "Humboldt County" sign as you drive north on 101. There was a brief glimps of "G" Street in Arcata, Moonstone beach, and the Beach in Trinidad. And it was filmed in and amoung our world famous redwoods.
Yes, this movie is true in that we are known for our locally grown marijuana. I don't know if all the growers rush down to Moonstone beach when the Feds are raiding their crops, however.
It's a good story, but if for no other reason, see this movie just for the scenery alone. It's like a 90 postcard, or advertisement to come see the beauty that is the real, and true Humboldt County. |
