When I first heard of this, I was excited automatically, like every Friday the 13th fan, but feared it being another terrible sequel. Well, everyone who says remakes are terrible are wrong. This is what people who remade movies such as Prom Night, Shutter, and The Grudge need to learn from. To start off, the script was decent, and will make every Friday the 13th fan happy. The deaths are not too inventive, they are all keeping true to the original style of Jason. Is all he used were a machete, hands, axe, screwdriver, and just other nearby objects, just as intended. In Jason X they showed Jason with all these advanced weapons, that is just not Jason. He is old style and uses only what he can get his hands on, not stuff that he has to go out of his way to get. Now what we've all been waiting for, the gore. There was enough gore to keep gorehounds happy without trying to shock you as much as Hatchet. And now for the nudity. There is absolutely no male nudity within this movie, but there are at least five or six beautiful girls naked at one time or another. If you want to see a movie with girls with a nice bodies, look no further. This will satisfy everybody, the gorehounds, the perverts, the critics, and the teenagers. There are enough jump scares to keep you satisfied for the entire running time. And now I want to go off topic to talk about what exactly this is a remake of. It is not a remake of the first one, but it is a remake of F13 Parts 1-4. During the opening credits they catch you up to what happened in the first one, for those who haven't seen the original. When I was going to see this movie I didn't want the twist of it being the mom, but I wanted Jason. This movie doesn't dwell on his mother, but gives you just enough info. For the acting, I was very surprised. Jared Padeleski (Clay) did a marvelous job. He made this character very realistic and had the looks for this role. The *****s and the girls were all played by very good looking young actors, which we all need for a slasher flick to work. Everything in this movie looked real, which is always important in a horror movie. The big thing I was afraid of for this remake was the look that they were going to give Jason. I didn't want it to be as cheesy as Jason X, as dumb as Freddy VS. Jason, or as plain as Friday the 13th Parts 3-8. This time they gave us a very dirty look. The man who plays Jason is the same person who played one of the deformed people in The Hills Have Eyes 2. He did a great job expressing Jason without a word being said. Jason looked dirty, tall, tough, and almost like something you could see in real life. This movie does more than scare, it makes you laugh. This is intentionally, though, which is good. The cracks that the teenagers make are pretty funny, but a few of the deaths themselves, at least two of them, were obviously funny deaths. I have never been anticipating a movie so much in my life. I had a countdown and everything. This movie will have you laughing, jumping, cringing, and asking for more. Welcome to Camp Crystal Lake...this time for real. Now, this is what I call a very effective and well thought out remake. |
