I just got back from checking out the midnight showing Of the new Friday the 13th movie. I could not have been more pleased with the retelling of the story. I have to give Michael Bay and his production company Platinum Dunes a round of applause for revamping cult classic horror films and his choice of directors on the projects. Marcus Nispel is at the top of his game in the reimaging of this version of Friday the 13th. He has done for Jason what he did for Leatherface in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and brought new life to a franchise that had been fading for quite sometime. Don't worry no spoilers here.

In this version it basically incorporates the first 3 films. We all know that Jason's mother was the original killer in Friday the 13th and Jason didn't appear until a dream sequence of sorts until the end of the first film. In the second film we see Jason as an adult with a sack over his head(to hide his disfigured face) as he takes revenge on the camp counselors for killing his mother. Of course in the 3rd film(originally in 3D) he finally don's the infamous hockey mask in which he wears with pride through out the next 8 films. Nispel has created the Jason we knew was there all along by making him even more relentless and vicious then the prior films in the past. Yet preserving the innocence lost of a child and the motherly love that was taken from him.

This is Jason at his finest raw and in a your face. The death sequences are unique and the thundering soundtrack helps to build the tension at just the right moments. Not to mention the production design and lighting all are top notch. I mean what would expect to be produced from Michael Bay the man who brought you Bad Boy's 1&2, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor(Watch the R-rated version if you can find it more intense than the theatrical version), and of course Transformers the movie just to name a few.

If you're looking to see a a movie that will definately become a cult classic in the tradition 80's slasher films this is it. That $9.50 at the box office is well worth the admission price. I would have preffered to see it on the Imax and spend the extra $5.00. I Can't wait for the Unrated version! Ok Marcus? Theatrical & Recut unrated edition on Blu-ray(both version on one disc) I'll be waiting for it! Awesome movie, Loved it, and would highly recommend it!
