We watched the 3D version and there was never that strange jitterness that I've experienced in previous 3D movies. Monsters vs. Aliens had something to the 3D that gave me a slight headache. But "UP" didn't have the same problem. It was clear and crisp, much like the difference between regular digital TV and HDTV. The surcharge was only another $2.50 plus the regular ticket price and in my mind, worth it.

I thought the movie was going to be a quick little adventure cartoon. A flying house, bizallion balloons; what kid didn't dream of adventures while never having to leave their house behind? Carl, the old man, drags his house around the way Linus dragged around his security blanket. It's his last link to his much loved wife, Ellie.

But instead of a comedy about a cranky old man and an eager young scout bringing him out of his shell, you get a story of love, devotion, loyalty and friendship. Russell is so sweet and friendly, eager and sincere, he is unlike any of the usual kids in the media today. He doesn't talk back; he's polite and sweet. He doesn't know all the answers; nor does he roll his eyes at the stupid old man, because youth has all the answers for today's trouble. He just wants to earn his badge so he can become a senior scout. He goes about his mission with determination and heart.

What I took out of it at the end, was a reminder, that children remember and will never forget. When you make a promise to a child and cross your heart forever, you better back it up.

A great big thank you to Pixar for bringing us entertainment that doesn't smother, makes you laugh, cry and clap. Tired, sullen adults were touched with sentiment and children cheered for our heroes Carl and Russell, Doug and Kevin. Hurrah!
