When I first saw this film, I was bracing myself for a horrific story of the abuses of women in Liberia. Although a tragic situation at times, there is an uplifting focus on the triumph! I was pleasantly surprised that the film turned out to be an informative film, weaving together history and narrative in a captivating story line of women rising up in Liberia. The central figure, Leymah is a true force of spirit and propels the film throughout.
I recently found out that the film has made it to be in the top 15 selections for the Oscars. Go see it now-so you'll know what all the buzz is about!
