I expected poor or mediocre acting and unsurprising movie-making quality. What the movie delivered was insight and inspriation.
I didn't feel like I wasted my money in the theater--the visuals were that good. I didn't feel like I was begin preached at--the story was that well done. The two main actors were quite engaging to watch. Possbily the best (nicest) depiction of Emma and Joseph you'll ever see.
The weakness is that the story was so very kind to the characters that it overlooked some truth. After all, Brigham Young probably wouldn't have ever had a problem dealing with this level-headed, saint-like Emma.
So be it. I didn't want or need to hear more critcism of the lady, just to learn from here. The movie made an inspiring answer to the question of what to think when bad things happen to good people. The journey this movie takes viewers on makes normal life troubles seem small by comparison, yet its no guilt trip.
Very well done. A likely candidate for my DVD shelf. |
