I really want to like this movie...

I saw this movie at 12:01, in a theater full of frenzied teenagers who were obviously cult followers of the book. You would think that this movie could make it past its biggest fans on opening night, right? WRONG! This adaptation was just that ridiculous.
First of all I don't blame the actors at all, well mostly. Bad directing oozed out of every pore of this film. And when the director is telling you that you nailed a scene, you should probably believe them. So, maybe they didn't KNOW they were delivering their lines like high school kids with no real acting experience.
Robert was 95% great, in spite of poor-to-bad direction. There were some weird shots that should have gotten edited, or redirected into something better. Kristin fell flat for me. All her lines were delivered with a twitch (maybe she should get that checked out), which kind of made sense at the beginning (scared of the vampire, right?) but by the end just made you want to tell her to go home. Maybe she was shooting for "conflicted" but all I saw was stuttering and convulsing.
Decent-to-good portrayals: Edward, Victoria, Charlie, Jake (minus the hair) and Rosalie.
Poor-to-embarrassing: Bella, Alice, Billy, James, Carlisle and ESPECIALLY Eric. He was so annoying.
Twilight seemed like a collection of scenes, instead of a movie building to a climax. The love story lost all believability because the screenwriter did not put enough real dialogue behind the romance.
Someone else please make this movie again, with a bigger budget and an edited cast? I'm sure all the twilight fans would pay their admission a year in ADVANCE just to get a product that makes their passion legit. |
