Stephenie Meyer fans lined up to see the film of the much-loved series. Even small town theatres like the one I went to had lines out the door. I was amazed; I quite enjoyed every moment. So why all the words about how much of a let-down the movie was? I'll tell you.
The fans of Meyer who wrote these reviews are the ones thinking, 'Oh, no! Look! It deviated from the book! God, what a horrible movie!' However, let me correct this thinking faux pas. Yes, the movie deviated some from the book. However, that is because the director was adding action to scenes that, in the book, were purely made of dialogue with Bella's thoughts added in! Outside of the speaking and thinking, the characters could have been doing no more than sitting. And what sort of visual does that make in a movie? So, added bits and pieces, deviations from the dialogue in the book. My advice: Try to view the movie as someone who has never read Twilight, who doesn't know the movie is slightly different. You'll like what you see.
Was it perfect? No. I'm not saying it was perfect, and I'm not saying I agreed with every change made. But I understand where Catherine was coming from in her approach.
Added to that- I'd like to see someone make these vampiric power effects look realistic. HELLO! It's fantasy. This stuff doesn't happen in real life. To those who think it looks fake- that is because, hey, it would look pretty unreal to Bella, don't you think?
Reviews by critics- mostly written by older men. Meyer fans have been called "gooey-eyed romantics". I'm thinkin' these guys don't really appreciate a good romantic saga.
All in all- Three Cheers for Twilight.
