Walking into the movie theatre, I was conflicted with numerous concerns and hopes for what the movie would be like. Critic Reviews were mostly negative, and the advertising was a bit child-oriented at times. However, it was starring Kevin James and had a good possibility of turning out to be an overall good-hearted comedy.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop turned out to be the latter, an enjoyable comedy safe to bring the kids, while at the same time entertaining for the older crowd. Having a mix of enjoyable cliches, references and comedic moments, this movie evoked emotions from all members of the audience. From the teenagers behind me, to the children infront of me, even the adults sitting beside me. Laughter and applause, it was obvious everyone in the theatre found Paul Blart to be a movie worth watching and more.
Kevin James pulls all aspects of the movie together - His physical and verbal comdeic style a highlight worth mentioning. His mere physical appearance sets up for numerous weight-related jokes, which to some may seem over-done. In my opinion, Kevin James has a way of presenting the jokes that never get afflicted by over use in other movies.
There was one particular part during the film that played as a 300-esque sequence, while although I will not spoil it I found it to be hilarious, and the audience I viewed the film with agreed.
In conclusion, this warm-hearted, yet hilarious comedy starring a gifted actor and comedian deserves reconition as a movie worth seeing in theatres. There are some moments I won't forget in the years to come. Thank you, Paul Blart: Mall Cop Extraordinaire. |
