Worth the price of admission

Living in NYC, you have to be VERY picky about what movies to support. Although imperfect, I
was very satisfied with "The Family...". I
navigated to the reviews (critics and audiences)
for "Righteous Kill", and notice how half of the
audience and critics gave "Righteous" an average/
failing grade. Whereas "TFTPreys" received about 4 negative reviews out of 103 outstanding
reviews. And the negative reviews were racially-charged, and biased. They weren't objective, just hating Tyler Perry because he appeals to a silent (well, not silent in the theaters) majority.
Tyler Perry's movies are usually: preachy/slapstick/over-the-top melodrama/predictable (like his plays), but I still support him, because I know he puts his heart into his work, and wants to create an alternative to the assembly-line garbage white Hollywood produces. With that said, "TFTPreys" was WELL-acted, engaging and different for Tyler, in terms of trying to appeal to white ticket-buyers w/the inclusion of Kathy Bates and Cole Hauser (both of whom have not received enough steady/notable work since the 1990's, or
early 2000's). I'm sure it was different for these actors, but once they realized w/ Tyler Perry there's a guaranteed, loyal base and profit---there's not much to ponder. I wasted money on "Pineapple Express" (and I ONLY saw that b/c I wanted my lover to smile---but we were still unfufilled, and it was forgettable). I do not feel I've wasted money with "TFTPreys", and wouldn't mind seeing it, again. |
