This movie works because it doesn't try to be serious. It is just what it claims to be, a fun night at the movies. This is destined to be a staple of CMT in the near future.
Don't go into this expecting an acadamy award nomininee. Sit back and enjoy. The combination of Toby Keith and Rodney Carrington(both wrote the film) is a bit odd but it seems to have worked well enough. Carrington's humor carried this movie through several potential dead spots.
I gave this a grade of B- just on the strength of it not being too pretencious. It's not as good as other 'country' movies, i.e. Pure County, but good enough for an 1 1/2 of viewing fun. |
